Thanks Amanda, these birds are common around Cooper Landing and throughout South Central. They like pine forested areas. Their bills are built for eating seeds out of pine cones. They travel in small groups and can be attracted to bird feeders that have sunflower seeds. The females are a yellowish green color. I always feel like I should be somewhere tropical when I spot a red male. Alaska's cardinal.
