Every Sunset is Different...........

I never tire of taking sunset photos...I love that soft glow on my face

as the sun goes down.

It's so peaceful.

Orchid Iris

Strolled through a local greenhouse with my camera

and took a photo of an Orchid Iris.  

I thought it was really pretty so I'm sharing with you all.

Snow Geese in Flight

They are on their way towards their summer nesting grounds.

I saw several flocks flying high above me today over Kenai Lake.

The wind was so strong we could see the flocks being separated and jostled around

by the strong winds.  

It's a good thing these geese are strong fliers!!

Boar Tide...

Great photo of a incoming Boar Tide.  This was taken a few weeks ago when

we still had some ice floating in Turnagain Arm.

Another Day With the Snow Geese

I have really enjoyed photographing the Snow Geese these last few days.

These beautiful birds have really made my week.

The Snow Geese Are Back!!!

The Snow Goose or also known as the Blue Goose have

arrived back in Alaska.

These geese are now some of the most abundant waterfowl on the 

continent.  I think they are absolutely stunning!!!

They nest in colonies and the females return to where they were born to breed.

These geese mate for life and lay 3 to 5 eggs.

So good to see them back!!!

Great Alaskan Vistas....

It's hard to not find a beautiful view in Alaska...

The last frontier is a beautiful place!

Mount Redoubt Volcano

This is an active volcano that can easily be seen from the shores of 

Kenai.  No signs of activity on this clear day.  It can
send a lot of ash into the air if it becomes active, so its good to see
it at rest!!  

Shelf Mushrooms

When you see these conk mushrooms on a tree its a very good indication

that the tree has heart rot.  The fungi enter the tree through

wounds in the bark and decay the heartwood inside.

The diseased heartwood softens and the results is that the tree

becomes weaker and becomes more prone to breakage.

Striking a Pose...

This Mallard is taking a well deserved rest after migrating

back to Alaska.   It's wonderful to have all the birds back,

they add so much color to our environment.

Ice Formation

The photo above is of an ice formation that was created from

a  melting frozen waterfall.  

The water droplets that were dropping from the waterfall were

creating these wonderful little craters at its base.

The Canadian Geese are Back!!!

All our birds are returning  to Alaska for spring breakup.

Our quite wetlands and now filled again with noise!!

It's wonderful!!!

Standing Room Only Buffet....

This Alaskan Hare is going the extra mile for a snack.

It must have been worth his effort to get up on his hind legs.

Probably seeking out springs fresh green buds.

A Springtime Message!!!

I always love finding heart shapes in nature, so I 

was pretty excited to see this heart on one of my hikes.

Had to share it with all of you, It's not a perfect

heart.....but it's pretty close!!

Micro Climate Spring!!

The geese and ducks are returning and the birds are singing 

their springtime songs.  

Alaska is coming out of its cold winter deep freeze.

Little micro climate plants are starting to shoot up out by the 

Seward Highway.  I spotted this tiny little pink bud this last

Sunday....I can't tell you enough how much happiness this sighting
brought me!

Springs Reluctant Melt!!!

Our icy winds are keeping us cold, but

there are signs of melting!!!

Keeping the faith!!!!

Spring will come, lol!!!!

In Search of Grass....

The Dall Sheep have come down from the mountains again in

search of grass.  Pretty soon they will be rewarded

with fresh green shoots.

Record April Snowfall!!!

Anchorage just broke it's all-time snowfall record for the month of April.

And.....it's not over yet, lots of snow coming down again this evening.

This Alaskan Hare is proof that spring is on it's way,

his brown summer coat is starting to surface!!!

Can't wait for green grass and flowers!!!

Riding Out The Storm!!!

It's April and we are hip deep in snow.  It feels like Christmas is just

around the corner with all this fresh snow.

I bet this little Redpoll will be happy to see the warm days of 

spring after this snow storm.

Alaskan Sunset on a Cold Clear Day

We had a break in the snowfall today, so I took the time to go watch the sun go 

down out by Point Woronzof.   It was a beautiful site at around 9:30 at night.  

Our days are getting longer, can't wait to soak it all in!

April Snow Showers

More cold arctic winds are bringing Alaska more snow!!!

A very light fluffy snow is making it's comeback with a vengeance today.

Looks like we can get up to 11 or more inches.

Praying for warmer days ahead!!!

Hanging Glacier Near Portage

Out by Portage Glacier there are several hanging glaciers nearby.  

If the light hits them just right then their aqua blue colors become

very intense and vibrant.  This glacier has a nice blanket of fresh

snow on top of it.

Wolf Pelt

This wolf pelt was for sale during the Fur Rondy and Iditarod Celebration.

I think it would look nicer on the wolf.  

I love the pink hair on the feet.  I'm happy that the love of fur coats

is not as popular as it once was.

Warmer Temperatures!!!

I'm happy to report that our temperature reached into the low 40's today!!

Time to get out the sandals and shorts, lol!!!

I know spring is on the way when I see seagulls displacing all

the ravens that fly to town every morning in search of food.

Sounds so ridiculous, but I get so excited when I hear the gulls squawking.

Our forests are going to be alive with bird song...can't wait!!
